We become what we behold. To behold means to see or look. We behold Jesus through song, prayer, meditation on the scriptures, teaching, and one another. As we behold Him we are transformed. Holy Spirit helps us to behold Jesus through song, prayer, meditation on the scriptures, and teaching. We behold Jesus each time we gather together. (Psalm 27:4; 2 Corinthians 3:7-18; Hebrews 4:12)
We partner with Jesus through intercession. We believe that as we behold Jesus we begin to discover more of what His plans and purposes are. As we discover those plans and purposes we are better equipped to partner with Him through intercession. Intercessory prayer is a form of prayer that asks. At MHOP we use the Scriptures to guide our prayers. We prioritize interceding for the Church, missions, our city, the nations, justice, Israel, and Jesus’ return. (Genesis 18:22-33; Exodus 33:12-23; Isaiah 62:1-9; Matthew 6:10; Matthew 9:36-38; Acts 2:16-21; Romans 11:25-27; Ephesians 5:25-32; Revelation 19:6-8)
We proclaim Jesus' first and second comings. We do this through song, prayer, teaching, and equipping. We believe that as we behold and partner with Jesus in the house of prayer we will proclaim Jesus in our day-to-day lives in word and deed. We want to do our small part in God’s big plan to equip messengers that proclaim the full gospel. The full gospel encompasses His first and second comings. We want to see people equipped to effectively proclaim the Lord’s first and second comings. Specifically, we want to see forerunner messengers who understand the unique dynamics surrounding the Lord’s return and are able to clearly and effectively communicate that to others. We want to see forerunner messengers equip and prepare the Church for the Lord's return. (Matthew 3:1-12, Matthew 10:1-10; Luke 1:13-17; John 3:25-30)
We long for Jesus’ return. One of the primary reasons the house of prayer exists is to provide a context for God to form longing love for Jesus in His people's hearts. As we behold, partner with, and proclaim Jesus our hearts grow in love for Him. As we grow in love for Jesus we begin to mourn His absence and ache for His return. The primary way we grow in our longing for Jesus and His return is through singing, praying, and meditating on the Word and its revelation of Jesus. We believe that the more we encounter Him in the scriptures, with the help of the Holy Spirit, our desire for His return will grow. We believe that in the generation of the Lord’s return, the Church will have a longing in their hearts for Jesus to come back. We believe that this longing and lovesickness will compel the Church to ask Jesus to return. (Song of Solomon 8:6-7 & 13-14; Matthew 9:14-17; 2 Timothy 4:7-8; 2 Peter 3:11-13; Revelation 22:17 & 20)
As we fulfill our mission we will be doing our small part in God’s big plan to form a preparing, praying, and proclaiming people that long for and hasten Jesus’ return. As this preparing, praying, and proclaiming people are formed, a longing in their hearts for Jesus return and an urgency to hasten (quicken) His return will grow. This will compel the Church to live on mission, love one another, and cry out for Jesus' return like never before. The unity, maturity, missional zeal, and love of the Church in that hour of history will be like never before. Whether we are alive to see that day or not, we desire to prepare for, pray for, and proclaim that day! We believe we are soon approaching that day when, as Revelation 19:7 says, The Bride has made herself ready. Oh how we long for that day and to be a part of the Church that prepares for, prays for, and proclaims the coming of that day!
The two primary contexts that God will form this people are in the house of prayer and the local church. The two must be deeply connected to one another. We desire to serve, support, encourage, and build up the local church. We ask everyone involved in our ministry to also be committed to and invested in a local church.
